About Virgin Islands
The United States Virgin Islands are a collection of islands located in the Leeward Islands, of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. They are a part of the larger Virgin Islands chain that also includes the British Virgin Islands.
There are three main islands including St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. There are also over 70 other islands, islets, and cays in the territory. The U.S. Virgin Islands are a territory of the United States of America, and U.S. Citizens do not need a passport to visit.
The U.S. Virgin Islands have duty free, and free port status, meaning that many goods are available here for less than on the mainland United States. Virgin Islanders are full citizens of the United States, but do not have the right to vote in Federal elections. They, however, pay significantly less taxes than a resident of a state. Only a short flight from the East Coast of the U.S., and a popular destination for cruise ships, the U.S. Virgin Islands are a popular vacation destination.
