Is Ziplining Safe? Everything You Need to Know

Man smiling with expansive U.S. Virgin Islands views. Magens Bay Views.

If you’ve been dreaming of zipping over the lush canopy of St. Thomas but find yourself feeling a little hesitant because of the heights, you aren’t alone. At Tree Limin’ Extreme, the most common question we get from first timers isn’t “How fast do I go?” but rather: “Is ziplining actually safe?”

The short answer: Yes. But we don’t just want you to take our word for it. We want you to understand the level of care we put into every single zip.

The Gold Standard: What is ACCT?

In the world of aerial adventures, there is one name that sets the bar for safety: the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT).

ACCT is the leading accredited standards developer for the global zipline industry. They set the rigorous requirements for design, installation, and inspection.

At Tree Limin’ Extreme, we don’t just follow these standards, we live by them. Our course was built and is regularly inspected to meet or exceed ACCT regulations. This means every cable, every bolt, and every platform is engineered to handle forces far beyond what a human rider could ever exert.

Safety on the Course

When you’re far above the ground looking out at the turquoise waters of Magens Bay, we want your only thought to be “Wow,” not “How?” Here is how we ensure your peace of mind:

  1. Professional Guides: You’re never alone on the course. Our guides undergo 50+ hours of training to handle everything for you. Don’t worry about “doing it right”, our pros manage the equipment so you can focus on the view.
  2. Redundant Systems: We utilize a “redundant” safety system. This means you are always connected to by multiple points of contact. In the extremely unlikely event of a primary system failure, a secondary backup is already in place.
  3. Daily & Periodic Inspections: Every single morning, before the first guest arrives, a team member performs a daily inspection of the entire course and each line. Beyond that, we undergo ACCT third-party inspections to ensure our course is in peak condition.

The “Nervous First-Timer” Experience

We specialize in turning “I can’t do this” into “I just did that!” Our guides are experts at helping guests manage their jitters. After you get geared up in your harness and helmet, guides provide a comprehensive safety briefing on the ground.

We explain our sending and receiving procedures, and we don’t head to the first platform until you feel confident. Learn more about the experience
